Many people using the AC sponge media and cut a hole in the middle to insert the filter intake. The best way is to soak the sponge with water and freeze it, then drill the hole. This leaves a cleaner looking hole. S.

WebDec 23, 2012 · A sponge will remedy your problem. Wrap it around the strainer. It is possible for healthy fish to get sucked in. I had experienced that before with my powerhead killing almost half of the tetras I kept 5 years ago. I reused the powerhead again this time locking the strainer with a tube connecting the sponge.
WebIf you get a good sized chunk of filter foam and pop it over the intake, as the water pressure is being spread far and wide due tot eh many holes in the sponge, it should reduce the flow giving the fish chance to get away from it.
